CURIEUSE ISLAND, SEYCHELLES

The Seychelles inner islands are granitic and date back to the splitting of the African and Indian sub-continent tectonic plates. The rock formations on the beach are spectacular. Going ashore, we find a giant land tortoise breeding and nature center with the giant prehistoric looking animals roaming free. A hike across the island to the “Doctors House” the restored residence of the doctor looking after a long departed leper colony is a good way to see the mangroves, and local plants and birds including the scarlet Madagascar Quoddy. The beach is stunning. Then take the boat to the quintissential tropical islet of Isle St. Pierre for some really good snorkeling. Here you may see sharks, rays, octopus and oriental sweet lips.

giant clams.
